High-profile investor and Apple shareholder Carl Icahn has published an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook urging him to once again increase its share repurchase program for stock holders. Citing strong iPhone 6 sales and predicting the larger devices will help Apple gain marketshare from Android, Icahn is requesting Cook and Apple’s board make a tender offer to increase its current rate of share repurchases. Icahn said he thinks Apple remains “dramatically undervalued in today’s market,” but didn’t suggest a specific number for the increased buybacks:...

A patent troll that bought an old Casio patent is claiming infringement in the Apple Watch Series 3, 4, and 5. It seems likely that the company will now seek to extend its claim to the Series 6, too. The troll is seeking an injunction that would prevent Apple from continuing to sell these models, in addition to asking for financial damages… Patently Apple spotted the lawsuit. The patent in question is an extremely broad one, which appears to describe a general method of controlling an OLED screen....

Here’s why Netflix’s Castlevania season 2 hid a wall chicken easter egg into one episode. Castlevania is based on the long-running video game franchise, which sees different generations of the Belmont clan periodically storming Dracula’s castle when it reappears. They have to fight their way through any number of unholy creatures with the Vampire Killer whip until they face off with Dracula himself. Apple briefly made a ceramic Apple Watch, but a new patent granted today raises the possibility of glass or ceramic MacBooks. The patent includes near-invisible perforations in the material through which notification icons could be displayed with interactive buttons… The patent majors on the technique for incorporating the micro-perforations rather than the material itself. The idea is that the display/button elements would be invisible when not illuminated. Apple suggests ceramic as one suitable material for the casing, with glass and plastic as potential alternatives (though a plastic MacBook casing seems unlikely these days)....

The New York-based company said that this latest round of financing is led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from existing investors including Tiger Global, Coatue Management and Hillhouse Capital’s venture capital unit GL Ventures, and is the third round of capital raised within four months, totaling just over $140 million. Apple’s streaming web TV service has been rumored for nearly a year now, with reports originating last March claiming that Apple was planning to announce a service at $30-$40 per month. The service was said to feature upwards of 25 channels and be available on the fourth-gen Apple TV. Recently, however, reports have claimed that Apple’s talks with major networks have stalled. Now, speaking to CNN, CBS CEO Les Moonves has confirmed that talks between Apple and CBS have stopped recently....
